Re: I want it
I'm gonna wait till they bring one out that also cuts & joins the wood, fits the pictures and talks to the customers before I upgrade
Re: I want it
It could pay for itself very quickly, depending on how you look at it.
Mine (different model) paid for itself in exactly one year, because I looked at it as a very specialised employee that I only had to pay once, one year in advance.

Re: I want it
that kind of machine from any of the manufacturers is only really efficient when your churning out mounts
in a bespoke type environment its not gonna gain you anything really
its really designed for heavy production,1000's of mounts a day type stuff

Re: I want it
We pretty quickly realised the machine we bought was not quick enough, hence seeing what is out there, the one we have became profitable within a few weeks it brings in many times the loan repayments , like robo said it's like another staff member .
It wouldn't be practical for me to get a machine like that yet, but as we continue to grow I will be needing bigger and better I will buy a machine we can grow into rather than being stuck with one to slow..

Re: I want it
the speed of machines like that though is not cutting speed, but more to do with being exceptionally organised (in a factory type way) and then being able to load while cutting

Re: I want it
Those prices make me think about my Gunnar. I've recently had a settlement figure from Gunnar, stating the figure I would have to pay if I bought the machine outright. The figure is the purchase price less the monthly rental for the period i have had the machine. The lease I am on at the moment does not include vat and is an expense I can offset. If I purchase it I will have to pay vat and I believe I won't be able to offset the purchase cost as an expense so it looks like I'll be leasing for a while longer. Is this the same for you big gun's? I am a sole trader.

Re: I want it
This is why I got a loan, I have offset the purchase against my tax, my corporation tax is the lowest I have ever paid this year, the interest on the loan can also be claimed against tax as can depreciation of the value of the machine, and in a couple of years I'll still have a machine with no payments, or a lump to sell.
I actually got a payment back from the VAT man that quarter too.

Re: I want it
As I understand it, you would have a lease plan in place that would come out of your P&L account but if you were to purchase the lease (settlement) then that would be a different deal and should be able to be set off as a capital payment and hence able to recover VAT (if registered of course). The only thing you will not be able to get are capital allowances since the leasing company have claimed them already.
On the machine itself, of course its a very competent member of staff, but there is a downside to high speed mount cutting in that you would then need a member of staff to continually load/unload the MC. We have a Trucut which is pretty quick and if cutting 10" x 8" mounts in full board quantities, there is very little time in between to do anything else. Its OK on our triple aperture 8" x 6" mounts since they actually leave you time to do other things in between loading/unloading.
My take is that it would need huge bulk mount orders to make it pay and then of course machine time is perhaps the last element in profitability on these type of jobs. The price you get the board at would be the determining factor.

Re: I want it
I thought i might have to upgrade this week
I've got the CMCix model and as i went to change the blade, there was lots of sparks and smoke then a few flames inside the cutting block mount. I feared the worse but turned out it was a short on the stepper motor and had a new one delivered next day and was an easy fix, thanks to Joe @ Simons
Very scary when these things go wrong as they are not cheap but agree with the others about it being an extra memberof staff

Re: I want it
We are quite new to the world of CMC's having obtained a Wizard 8500e from Framers Corner.
At first we had a few teething troubles and issues but now all seems to be fine and to be honest a godsend in some of the jobs we now take on without worry.
The time saved is unbelievable and as others have said, it's a new member of staff which leaves us time to get on with everything else.
