Wood shavings sticking in Morso blades

Post by ChrisG »

I've just finished cutting a pure wood moulding with the Morso and have had shavings getting wedged into the cavity where the two upper cutting blades meet. It is a pain in the neck as they have to be removed or the final cut is not clean and with shavings jammed tightly into the gap removal is time consuming and dangerous.

I cut plenty of mouldings with no issue at all but mouldings from one particular manufacturer seem to be the problem ones. Is this a fault in the moulding? Is there something I can do to prevent this happening?

That usually starts to happen when your blades are at the end of their life and cannot effectively push the waste away

if your blades are not old uns, then I don't know :?

Perhaps you need to readjust the blades: slacken of the nuts and readjust the morso blades so that no gap appears in the join.

worked for me!!............................

I don't think that's what Chris means, I think he means the area between the bottom of the blades (the sharp bit) and the blade housing, this distance will decrease as the blades wear down through sharpening so the shavings, instead of being pushed up and away from the housing, are pushed up and in to it and come down with the blades on subsequent cuts.

Blades are hollow ground by Wessex but they are pretty old. Maybe it's time I splashed out on a new set of FC blades!
