Recommendations for spraying gesso

Post by grahamg »

Hi all,

I've seen examples of people having used sprayguns to apply gesso to frames. I'd like to try it out, but am loath to pay for a full compressor kit. There seem to be some fairly cheap HVLP kits available, e.g. http://www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk/produc ... ts_id=5588 but I'm not sure whether they would be suitable for spraying gesso - does it need to be sprayed in a gravity fed gun?

Any advice gratefully received!

Thanks,

Graham

Hi Graham

trial and error really but we use a compressor and good quality gun we bought from a car parts firm locally.

it takes some adjusting to get the pressures right but when you have it, it makes the job better.
Also the Apollo range from Axminster power tools is quite good
hope this helps

Thanks very much for the advice.

I bought a cheapy Sealey HVLP sprayer and tried it out at the weekend. After some faffing around with the controls, the results were pretty good: didn't clog up, and should be far less sanding to do. Bit noisy though, sounds like an unhappy vacuum cleaner!
