Background colour for moulding display boards

Post by Not your average framer »

I am preparing to replace my existing moulding display boards with larger boards to accommodate a greater range of mouldings. Also at the same time, I am replacing Velcro with the metal strip and peg system from Lion as I think that it will keep everything neat and tidy with the minimum amount of effort.

So before I do this, in about two months time, I am thinking about the best colour and type of fabric for covering these boards. It did occur to me, because carpet remnants are usually conveniently priced and easy to obtain that I might consider using a light neutral coloured carpet.

I am trying to change the look of my shop and hopefully gain more sales in the proccess. So I wondered if anyone has any suggestions, or opinions as to which colour, or fabric type will generally display mouldings to the best advantage. Also, do moulding display boards look best with a frame around the outside on each board, or just with the fabric wrapped around the edges?

Thanks in anticipation,
Mark

I just screwed strips of wood to the wall and laid velcro down them. All the chevs stay in a line and if you don't like the background colour, just repaint the wall. :P

I prefer the carpet idea - a more sumptuous feel and appearance.

If you are not using Velcro, then you can use any covering, could be just paint wood, flock wall paper, newspaper, brown paper, so any colour you like

I thought that the carpet idea would be good, because it's often the ladies who choose how something is going to be framed and generally ladies like things which are a bit touchy feely. Particularly as quality in so many ways in something to be experienced through the senses.

Hopefully, when they take samples down from the wall, they will notice the touchy feely surface and this will contribute to a good perception about using my business for their framing. I know that this may not make sense to everybody, but I think that impressions and perceptions are a big part of attracting customers and their business.

I've got a left over piece of mottled cream carpet which I thought would look good, but unfortunately there is not enough for what I need. I was considering something of a similar colour.

We have black display fabric on a sliding door display cabinet and beige carpet behind the counter - the black looks much better - not that you can see much of I!

Wood moulding samples are Velcro'd on, metal ones are on purpose made pegs that clip in to brackets (Nielsen)

Mine is a neutral grey display fabric. Come and look around the shop to see what it looks like :D

Hi Abacus,

I like the way that you have created your moulding display. The grey works superbly and far better than I had anticipated. Thank you for showing me, I think you have shown me the right colour for my own needs.

It's the perfect colour, every colour of moulding stands out so well from the background. I hope that I can find some suitable pale grey carpet remnants.

I am also much impressed how you have displayed your gallery name at the top of the display boards. Such a classy idea and a really nice looking gallery too!

Hi
I am considering using circle polished stainless steel sheet and chevrons with magnetic tape on the underside. Not very touchy feely but clean and sharp?
