Hi Mark

I think Willem Haenraets might be the culprit ....

Hi Featurepiece,

Thank you for your kind help. I bought the picture in a local secondhand shop on Monday morning on my way to the bank. The asking price was just too good to miss, but I did not know anything about it.

At first glance I thought Fabian Perez, published by DeMontfort, especially with the red signature - check this out http://ipaintingsforsale.com/painting/F ... -6339.html same couple - then look further on that site http://ipaintingsforsale.com/artist/fabian_perez.html and compare the images to those on DeMontfort's website http://www.demontfortfineart.co.uk/arti ... leases.asp Probably Chinese companies - copying the style of certain published artists, even actual images.

Fabian Perez originals can retail for £30,000 or more.

My thanks to those who have contributed. I was surprised to learn that artists are so blatently copying the work of other artists.

I know it goes on, but I'm mostly amazed that their publishers don't expect their artists to be more original. After all, artists who can only copy other artists paintings don't do a lot for the prestige of the publisher. All a bit mediorce i think.

It's not a 'publisher' it's an art house, probably Chinese, that copies what's trending - a Fabian Perez limited edition might cost four or five hundred quid, they'll do you an original for £70 and even call it a Fabian Perez painting - not even 'in the style of'
