Hi all,
I was after a bit of advice about how to frame a masonic banner. It is about 1m square and has a pole at the top which it hangs from. I have never framer a banner before and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Thanks!
Matt

Re: Frame Banner?
I haven't done one before, but I imagine I would make a box frame and fix the pole into it, so just hang the banner from the pole. I don't think any fixing will be required other than maybe something to keep it spread out along the pole.

Without the pole I'd probably support sew it but just because it has a pole it doesn't necessarily mean that you can use only that to attach it because it will flop forwards if the frame is hung by wire/cord. Even if screwed to the wall it still might flop forward, plus there's handling..... so I'd still support sew it!
Is it embroidered or have any sort of stitching, like a hem or tassles? If so use existing needle holes with the same colour threads and go for some central stitches too to prevent the centre bowing out.
If you wanted to be really flash you could lightly pad it with polyester quilt wadding about 30mm in from the sides and then back that with a fabric like calico to make a thin 'quilt'. That way it would look more natural, 'hanging' below the centre of the pole 'floating' away from the mounting board, which would need to be bonded to something more rigid once the banner is mounted to it.
Is the pole exposed, at each end or/and along its length with tabs? If so I'd use wide melinex straps on the exposed bits. (Have you got a photo)?
Then a good 3" of space around and probably a double frame with the glazing (acrylic for me that size) between the two.
