Cheers folks - food for thought anyway, I reckon I'll just put a few stitches in the ribbon (some have none though) and a dab of glue to stop things flapping.

Interesting topic I reckon, I'd love to have free time to just fiddle about with stuff like this.

I would use clear silicone if you have to use a glue.

Just for a reference we have some medals we have in store for display purposes. I will pull it apart and photography the results to show the silicone on the back after a year and a half.

Oh, and yes brother - I also use a spoon for buttering, an accidental discovery a good few years back, ye olde knife has nothing to offer when sir spoon is present and mr butter is awaiting. (with toast of course)
