I was in the same position as you, a photographer wanting to display my work and the freedom to how and what I wanted. I was worried about costs but eventually after keeping an eye out bought a second hand (well looked after) Keencut Ultimat. Best investment I made!

I now do more work for others - some large frames and extra thick mountboard (I'm sure you would struggle with hobby equipment for this). A current frame I am doing is 1100mm square which I would never have done a couple of years ago. Sometimes the right equipment pays dividends in the end.

To clear this up, I am a hobbyist artist, no more, no less. I enjoy what I do and will be keeping it at that level. I sell a few paintings here and there which helps cover some of the costs of my hobby and that's it. I'll leave it there!

After taking on board various comments and mulling things over I now have bought some equipment which I am sure will suit my requirements without breaking the bank, so to speak.

One thing I will add, some comments have been made doubting the quality of materials which I use. For the record, I do not use 'cheap' materials, in fact I use conservation white core mount and tape! I would like to thank those whom have offered constructive help both on this forum and via pm. Much appreciated

Sh1965. Did you get a mount Cutter?..I've got a second hand one very cheap to a new framer.

Thank you for your offer. I got a Logan in the end which seems okay but haven't used it much due to hurting my back quite bad from a nasty fall. Curious to know more about the mount cutter you have though.

It's a C and H mountcutter Ive had it for some twenty years and it was second then.
It was my intention to hand it over to a new framer as I was the recipient of it years ago and the framer sold it to me very cheaply, so one good turn deserves another.
It cuts beautifully and has been treated well and regularly oiled and checked for accuracy and has all the pieces it came with in those days.
