When I was young I visited Alum Bay on the Isle of White and returned with a 'lovely' present for my mother :D which was a glass fish containing stripes of different coloured sands taken from the beach. It may be worth a weekend... on the otherhand that pastime is probably banned these days.
Still, there's always the Caribbean (white sand) or the Canaries (black sand) :lol:

Story of my life M8. :roll:

Going off track slightly..... Ever tried getting some gravel and sprinkling it on a flat piece of wood, placing another piece of wood on top and banging the whole issue with a big hammer? Apart from being very enjoyable, it makes a nice 'scarred' surface for a paint finish. :wink:

I think I've got the answer. I had a glass jar of paint delivered, but the top which was made of a hard black thermosetting plastic had been broken (fortunately the contents were o.k.), so I rquested a new top and thought no more. When the new top arrived, it suddenly struck me that the old broken top will grind up to mix with my paint just fine.

The top is made of something hard and shiney a lot like bakalite and being brittle my corn grinder will have no trouble grinding it down to whatever size particules I set it for. Similar tops are also often on bottles of medicine.

Ditto! My father, when he was alive was a chemist. In those days, (if I remember correctly) chemists were allowed to wash and re-use bottles, but I think the tops had to be replaced and could not be re-used.
