Not yet.

The stuff you can cut yourself (not laminated) offers 70% UV protection (forget anything below 90% IMHO) the UV stuff offers 92% but it's POA.

I presently use Nielsen clearcolour plus UV, which is waterwhite just as this 'art glass' is (almost zero colour shift) which gives 90% UV protection, or TruVu museum, which isn't waterwhite but gives 99% UV protection.

Glass & Mirror (Wessex) are also selling this stuff - if it offers an extra 2% UV protection whilst being just as clear and just as well coated (some of this coated stuff can be a real pig to clean) and cheaper, then I'll be interested. I will try some but I'm a pessimistic git - looking for the snag.

so i guess thats a no - a lot of the conservation issues do revolve around cost. uv protect no acid etc etc! how long do you want to live (does bupa make it longer) what car do you drive (rr bmw merc - do they save you from the accident) - do you want to make a frame that lasts beyond the next eco development - customer may come back and reframe in everlasting vacuum frame of the future.

To be honest im quite happy with my non (by some standards) conservation framing . glass cost ! i just pass it on to the custmer but other things they won't pay for.

To be honest i really wonder how long it would take a medal to deteriorate in a standard frame (thats after they have lived in a woodwormed desk for 60 years) i find it very difficult to 'sell' conservation framing in its highest forms to our average customer. further we do frame for museums (regimental) and they don't want to pay the premiums either.

comments please of which im sure there will be many

A couple of comments:
If you are happy with non conservation standards, then logically you are limiting your profit level by not offering conservation framing!

In my experience it's a mistake to pre-judge what you customers will pay for!
Many framers in my town and the nearby area say exactly the same thing and they do not even offer conservation glass. Why is it then, that I am able to sell conservation glass?

If selling' conservation framing is difficult for you, you probably aren't doing it the best way. It's something you have to learn, but before that you need to be convinced that it has merit and is important in some circumstances. Seeing some art that's been badly affected by poor quality framing should help convince you!

If Museums do not see the importance of conservation framing of anything that is precious to them, they are being irresponsible. They obviously need educating!

My glass supplier has just put me wise to the fact that most of the world's glass coming from China. In addition to this, the problems which we don't like mostly occur during China's seasons of high humidity which causes the interleaving paper to wrinkle and leave those characteristic patterns on the glass.

Perhaps If you can buy enough during the drier seasons and therefore can avoid buying any glass at the wrong time of year, then maybe you can avoid this problem.

Yes, but there are conditions:
1. You would need to forget everything you already know in order to be completely reprogrammed (brainwashed).
2. You would need to pay a daily fee (min. 21 days) in cash, to be instructed. POA.
3. Any materials stuffed up during training would need to paid for.
4. You would be responsible for lunch expenses for all staff each day.
5. Personal insurance would be your responsibility.

I think that's about, but if I think of any other conditions, I will let you know after you begin your course.
No further correspondence will be entered into!
