I have a tape gun and yes it is a good bit of kit. However the tape is very expensive . Where is the best place to buy from, not just the cheapest as mike has found out,I want the the best value for money . I have hunted around a bit but prices are very similar

.

Thanks Jon

It may so on the box, but self adhesive tapes are not really conservation quality. Some may be acid free but we all know that manufacturers of stuff have devalued the term 'acid free' so much that it's almost pointless now!

There are a number of brands of ATG tape available down here. Some stick really well some don't. Some are cheaper than others. I want the one that sticks best. If it's the cheapest or the dearest, it doesn't matter.
I use ATG tape to bond mats together and I also use some PVA glue as well so that the mats don't shift.

I use tiny dots of ATG tape for that, and not many either, I use more PVA, the tape is only there at all to prevent shifting while the PVA goes off - PVA is cheaper and does the job better.

Same applies for foam board glass spacers and anything else that would be visible if it slipped/gave.

The only thing I use ATG tape on its own for is for making mount fillips flush, and then not much at all as the fillip is taped to the flush-making material anyway.

This is getting weirder......

Not to be defeated, I got another brand new AT Gun. A nice yellow one. The instructions are much bigger. I threaded the tape exactly as per.
Here's a picture. Look OK?

Only problem is, the adhesive is on the wrong side. There is no way it can work like this. :?

Flipping the reel over puts the glue on the correct side, but the reel goes the wrong way.

Comments? :)

More weirdness....

I put in a fresh roll and it works!!!!!! How the glue managed to crawl onto the wrong side of the previous roll, I will never know. But when I put the first reel back in, the glue was on the right side.

Aliens.....

When you open a new reel of tape and put it in the gun; before you start feeding it around the pulleys, pull a length of tape out - the adhesive should be on the bottom of the release tape.

If it's not just lift it on to the reel and next time around it will be on the correct side.

If ATG is an abbreviation of Adhesive Transfer Gun - how can you have an Adhesive Transfer Gun Gun - you've either got an ATG or an AT Gun

Well, I suppose ATG could stand for Automatic Transfer Glue, in which case you WOULD have an 'ATG Gun' !!!!

OK with that little problem sorted.....

It's not the River Avon. it's the Avon. Avon means River.

It's not Mount Fujiama, It's Fujiama or Mount Fuji.

You can't have an added bonus. Or the cheapest price or a new inovation or a big giant or forward planning or a short summary or a free gift or faster speed. Something can't be first introduced and I'll never know the reason why.

Sorry if I'm over-exaggerating

Yesterday we received two catalogues in the same envelope - one was for craft supplies and one was for framing supplies. The same company trades under a different name for each trade and we get both of their catalogues because we visited them with their craft hat on at the International craft & hobby fair at the NEC (The Spring Fair for hobby/craft shops) as well as with their framing head on at the Spring Fair.

There's a lot of stuff in the craft catalogue the same as the framing catalogue but some is packaged differently because it is for resale - e.g. bags (that can be hung on spinners/hooks) instead of boxes.

There is an 'acid free' ATG tape 12mmx30m that sells in the framing catalogue for £4.29 a roll or £3.86 if you buy a case of 72 rolls (ex VAT).

In the craft catalogue the same tape costs £1.44 with a RRP of £3.39 (Incl VAT)

IOW I am selling it cheaper to my customers including VAT than framers can buy it ex VAT and buying it at a third of the price framers can  and that's just one example.

The craft company has a carriage paid order of £75 - the framing company does not even state what their carriage paid amount is - guessing more.

It's bonkers - I could set myself up in competition with this company and undercut them whilst using them as my supplier!!!
