In relation to people asking for discounts, Jim Miller has a great response. Not his exact words, but along the lines of "how would you feel if you were asked you to take a pay cut?"

Here's a quote that I quite like from a recent Grumble topic ....
"Ultimately, you have to live or die by your price. Some customers "get" the value of what you are offering, and others don't. Those others aren't your customers. Don't worry about them. But make sure that you can make a living off your prices. If your prices are low and you can't raise them, and you still can't make a living, find something else to do"!
I'd substitute 'living' for 'profit' though.

Plenty of customers introduce themselves in person at the shop as the person that was given a quote on the phone, or from a website/email enquiry.Bagpuss wrote: on my advertising I tell people they can ring for a free quote over the phone. Since I've been running it ( for the last few months ), I can honestly say that for anyone who rings and quotes the size of a frame and what type of thing they want, they NEVER call back. It's either my prices are too high or they are just "tyre kickers" Does anyone experience the same thing
