I've posed the question and complained elsewhere and have been told by one supplier that to scrutinise each length of moulding before despatch would be impossible.

So - that is a PROBLEM to them - how do they solve that problem - well, they pass it to us don't they. Let Joe framer unwrap it and check it - s/he has nothing like the quantity we have to check, let it screw up THEIR day!

I'll only take so much!

There is an obvoius quality control somewhere as defects are often seen marked on some lengths - cant say that I have ever seen an allowance made for the marked defect, so suspect that there probably is a QC system in place at manufacturer that gets bypassed by supplier.
Wouldnt it be nice to have one database of mouldings - no more searching through catalogues to find a different supplier when your normal one is out of stock.

Now isnt this a great subject for a knowledgable supplier to jump in on - I am sure the problems involved with ordering, storing and delivering are immense and maybe we ought to be more appreciative of the brilliant service that we get from most UK suppliers.

Qulaity control in mouldings is a problem I have been whining about for about 20 years. There is obviously no quality control in most factories that produce mouldings. If there were any quality control, then framers would not be getting so much crap.

I'm sure that factories work on the principle that if wood comes in to the factory and is processed and then goes out again, all is well.
Never mind if three quarters of the wood is so twisted, it could be used on the front of a Cessna for a propellor.
Never mind if the finish is half done, has lumps of crap in it or gets dinged or scratched during the process or the wrapping sticks to it because the finish is not dry, or a dozen other problems.
Just as long as the stuff goes out the despatch door and is sent half way round the world to some unsuspecting framer. They just don't give a damn! Never have and never will.

We just have to be discerning and don't take it. Send it back for a credit and be very particular about what you keep. Three strikes and it's out, never to be ordered again!

After all, the corner sample you got wasn't like that, was it??? The price list didn't say it was going to be like that did it??? The rep didn't tell you it was going to be like that did they???
