Aparrently even if placed downstairs, they need a good strong concrete floor to sit on.

They can move due to the fact you have to huge pneumatic rams pushing the blades backwards and forwards.

I nearly choked on my tea when I saw that. I would love to see someone try and get this upstairs. As Alistair says, it weighs over half a tonne so moving it around is no joke on the ground floor.

I heard that if you adapted a machine from three phase to single phase that the load on the supply becomes pretty intolerable and the machines "go slow" Our power supply is poor in that we have around 205 volts at peak times which causes problems with single phase machines pulling under a horsepower. A complaint to the REC bought out Western Power who manage the grid locally and they did a tap change in the local transformer which (they say) adds 6 volts to the supply. I still get starting current problems though.

I am lucky in that there is a three phase supply on the premises and all I need is a distribution board which won't break the bank. 1.5k for a hydrovane seems a bit steep though. I was hoping to keep that under a grand.

I paid £1000 for my recon hydrovane from Compressorman.com. I have had it 4 years now, no problem with the machine but I did blow a motor due to power switch malfunction, but that was the power not the machine, and yes it was expensive to fix.

I bought my 969 second hand and when we arrived to collect it it was upstairs on a mezzazine floor! It was safely lifted down with a fork lift and once on a level surface was easy enough to move with pallet trucks.
Regarding the compressor, we run a 200 litre, noisy Clarke compressor- Deals with the saw and a 299mxsl underpinner with ease and doesn't seem to be overworked at all. This compressor is about £750.00 new but I picked up a year old one on ebay for about half that.

The 969 with smart stop is an amazing bit of kit- We produce over 200 frames a week with a mix of bespoke and repeat sizes and the smart stop, although costing as much as the saw, in my opionion is money very well spent.
These saws do create a lot of dust though so i wouldn't skimp on extraction- I was lucky enough to get hold of a second hand Hippo Dust Box which is a good extractor and just about copes!


Regarding phase converters- I have just moved our spray booth to another part of the building which doesn't have 3 phase.After some research i found the best piece of kit was a digital phase converter from http://www.drivesdirect.co.uk The owner is most helpful, a quick phone call from our electrician made the installation quick and easy.

Did anyone get a bargain then? It went for £1800 which is a good price.

It wasn't me alas, but not by very much. Seems a good price but factoring in transport, lift and shift plus unknowns for service meany=t we thought we had gone in at the right price. I would have gone higher if I had seen it.

£1500.00 plus VAT seems to be a bargain.
Will let you know what the machines like when we collect it this Friday.
Already got a few T350's and a CS999 so this was brought as a back up, but it may replace one of the T350's depending on it's cut quality.
