Woodglue is a fair bit stronger. When I did mine, I checked for loose edges and tacked them down with woodglue. I dare say you could do the whole outside edge with it straight away.

I may be wrong but I think one difference is that wood glue dries more hard and brittle - builders PVA stays more pliable?

Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions with regard to moulding displays. The wood glue worked really well on the smaller boards, so I've taken the plunge and started building the main display. Heres a WIP photo...
