This thread is about stickers on the back of frames - so, to sort of keep it on topic, a frame that I had gone to so much trouble as to colour code the tape and backing, or use a dustcover in addition to my non-colour coded tape/backing. would have THREE stickers on.

An Artcare 'We Care' label
A speciality glass label.

Oh, and two stamped stars to indicate placement of wallhooks.

I had a lady wanting a frame to match one she had. She said the framer's label was on the back if that was any help. It was dated 1909.

Hi Ormond,

I use them because they have such a traditional and classy look. Regardless of which size you use they all have three countersunk screw holes. On the smaller ones the hole sizes can be very small and need screw sizes to suit. In normal use one would be positioned centrally onto the back on the top of the frame leaving the ring showing above the top of the frame.

It's a sort of Victorian thing and during the 1970's to 1980's it was an "in" thing to hang frames fitted with one of the plate ring on colourful ribbons, even sometimes tied with fancy bows, etc. These days if they are used like that, it's unlikely that they would be hung from a ribbon. I think that ribbon look is now completely out of fashion and probably a good thing too!

It's not as time consuming as you might think, it fact it's quick quick and easy, once you've learnt the routine. Also yes I do put as much car into ever aspect of the whole job. For me every job matters and I will do the best I can at all times.
