I thoroughly recommend framing from a home workshop.
I walk at least ten yards to work every day.... I'm snowed under with jobs, week after week.
For ten years I had a shop in town and at the end was TOTALLY pissed off with all the crap I had to endure.. increased petrol costs, the daily hike of a 30 mile round trip, rent, rates, phone, business bank account, the local council mucking up the road layouts resulting in very little passing traffic and footfall, the excessive number of charity shops and town centre pubs draining the life out of what was once a vibrant centre, the out of town shopping areas taking over..... etc etc. It used to cost me hundreds of pounds a week just to open the door.... not any more !
Now it's all done at MY level, at my speed, as and when I want to. I can start when I want, finish when I want, work evenings, mow the grass if it's fine and work when it's raining, and in all of this I am very content.... it's the best thing I have ever done.
I'm no slacker, jobs still need to be done and they get done, but it costs me next to nothing to work from home, and I can still claim back my tax deductable items as normal. I pay tax and am a proper registered business so I'm not avoiding the miserable realities of running a business, but as I said, it's now on my terms.
I would not recommend starting up a framing business in a town any more. It must be purgatory.
'Home Working' - a nagging doubt ...
