I think it is quite simple; this is a forum; people ask questions; people offer suggestions; you consider them and take or leave them; no place for rubbishing anyone.
I always find everyone's input to my questions helpful as there are generally plenty of ways to skin the cat, for me, that's what makes it interesting.

As the one who started this post, can I say:
a) we found lots of the advice helpful and it has given us ideas we wouldn't have thought of;
b) some of the ideas made us laugh out loud - and that is another thing I love about the forum, it makes me laugh a lot;
c) the customer was driven by price to an extent as a collection had been taken to pay for the leaving gift, so I am now doing what a good daughter always should, and taking the crowbar to my Dad who is a dab hand at all things metalwork (retired metalwork teacher, very handy!)
d) we will hopefully post a photo of the finished article if I remember to take one before they pick it up.
e) we hope no-one feels they need to leave the forum when the ideas can be so helpful
So thank you for all the advice, hints and tips - we will take from it the bits we like and quietly ignore the bits we don't.
