Just checked out the link, all the courses are in the states so I wondered if the UK qualifies as a remote location?

Perhaps we coud create a Guild of Master framers in conjunction with the PPFA, run by framers for framers. After all we have all the training resources and experience on this forum, I for one would rather pay someone who will support me through the qualification process and afterwards. Does the FATG work for framers or artists? It seems obvious it cannot do both. I know of a few artists who share our opinions of them.

Someone once said the Dodo was bird that looked like it was created by a commitee.

I have been reading with interest…
I used to be a member of the FATG for one year when I first Started 10 years ago. But after one year I could not see any benefit to my business.
But I did take the GCF test and I’m glad I did because it does provide a small amount of proof to my customers (especially the new ones) that I am not a cowboy.
(Will I have to cut the GCF logo off the cert to keep it on display?).

But If anyone is interested you can join my Club!
It called JOLLY GOOD FRAMERS
Its free to join, you don’t need any references and you can use the logo as much as you like.
You can also put JGF after your name!

If you would like to join just let me know and I can issue you with your very own membership number.
I’m just off now to remove my tongue from my cheek.

Welcome John!

It's great to see the MD of a Jolly Good trade organisation communicating here - that's something the FATG won't do!

They don't have a song either - so say all of us in the bus!

John

Won't offer:
Logo you can't show to anyone except yourself
Certificates you can't keep
Qualifications you can't display
Homeland security / Trading standards background check

Will offer
()Three levels of membership:
Jolly Framer
Good Framer
Jolly Good Framer
()Discounts for local late night fish and chip shops.
()Annual make a frame out of pie crusts competition
()No demands for payment or problems with renewals...forever

I shall be uploading a membership package to all newbies for
download on my website soon. Window sticker templates,
certificates etc. Watch this space!
If you have any 'jollygood' framing movies I can dub them
into Hindi. Please also include a very loud soundtrack in
which you sing out of synch with your lip movements and
dance around your framing workshop in loose clothing.

Well done John, the most exciting thing that has happened
to framing in years. I have already sent my cheque for £0.00p
to your Swiss bank account and I feel protected already.
Can't wait to explain the membership benefits to my customers,
they will get a warm snuggly feeling knowing I adhere to the
high standards demanded by the Association.

Well done John
I hope that you can bring on board a 'Jolly Good' Solicitor that can be contacted through the many Non- English call centres that have appeared.

I can then tell the Trading Standards people when/if they appear to contact my 'Jolly Good' (ill)legal team and explain how to doctor (deface) a certificate to take out an offending graphic of an old man in a Red gown and a flat cap!!!!

Can anyone explain how it is that every John in the country ended up a picture framer.

I wanted to be the first to welcome you to the forum John, but I see that John and John have both beaten me to it. :)

Jolly Good Framers NEWS

Today we doubled our membership
Framers not called John can now join.
We have taken steps not to have a legal team.

New Picture Framing Qualification….
We are pleased to announce from now on if you do something that you think is clever or you learn a new skill you can give your self a gold star. When you have given yourself 10 gold stars you can then get a sticky address label, write on it ‘I’m A Jolly Clever Framer’ and wear it for the rest of the day.
Your customers will be impressed and with the increased trade you will soon be able to justify the cost of joining in the first place!

More JGF news soon
