gum tape coming lose

Post by CalicoFraming »

The brown gum tape on a frame I made has dried out and come unstuck. What do you think? Too little wetting? Too much maybe? The way I do it is I have a soaked washing up sponge on a plate and I run it along the length of the tape. It's wet, with a couple of drips falling off, and seems pretty sticky.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

There are some mouldings it just won't stick to. :( Sanding the back of the moulding a bit sometimes fixes it. :)

A few framers have said they put a little bit of PVA glue into the water.

Does not stick to synthetic mouldings you need self adhesive for that and as Prospero says some finished wood moulding may need a light sanding.
