It's old, very worn, cracked to beggary from use and frayed around all edges. It's a piece that's been picked up at a market rather than an heirloom, and sticking it down on a board is not a problem - although if the board extended to each edge it'd show because of the fraying. Ideally I'd come in board of the edge by about 10mm to for a floating look. The size is 900 x 1080, which takes it beyond my HGP 260. My self sticky board is 815 x 1220, again too small.

Colourmount do a 3mm Thick Tac but at a tenner a sheet it's only sold in 5's. And I'm nervous on the way you 'd apply it.

Any thoughts, or is there anyone close to Howden East Yorkshire with a Hot Press capable of helping me out please.

How do you know it has no value?

I had one in the other week which had a value of £3K but to look at it you wouldn't have thought it was that valuable.

if you heatpress with less bord it will fold the edges over in you vacum press

Is this map one sided or 2 sided? Value is also a concern.

Another option is to have a specialist wet mount it as is done with advertising posters on paper backed with fabric.

Things have moved on slightly - we're opting for a thin width mount that will cover the frayed bits on the edges. I quite like the edges on show, customer prefers the clean line offered by a mount, but it it is only 15mm showing. This gives a couple of options. I can use a Hot Press / jumbo self adhesive board taking it right up to the edge (taking on board your point STCSTC), or if I could find a way of supporting the map I could hinge it in the normal way. Not sure what to use in this latter circumstance though. Any thoughts on holding it in place using the latter option please?
The value point - Taken on board and I'll work through that today..

Beware drimounting old paper. If it's frayed then it sounds as though the paper has deteriorated and mounting it may not work.

Try if you can sticking a tiny bit of tape to a corner on the back. If it peels off easily bringing the top surface of the paper with it, then it ain't gonna drimount well. If this is the case then encapsulation in Mylar is the only course. If you can get a piece big enough.....
