Permanently mounting Fujiflex Hi-Gloss (cibachrome)

Post by Jimmyosmond »

Hello,

I'm trying to develop a mounting technique so that I can mount Fujiflex Hi-Gloss Prints onto a perfectly flat foam board, without orange-peel effect, but with a permanent acid-free bond.

I tried Dry-Mounting but the print Orange-Peeled and I've read on this forum that it's because of the heat and not a good idea with such a hi-gloss print.

I've considered 3M Positionable Mount Adhesive but I'm told it isn't Acid-Free.

Can anyone recommend a pressure-activated, acid free, permanent bond adhesive tissue that would suit this job? Also, do you know where I can get hold of a sensible amount of the stuff in the UK (I've seen some products that seem to only be available in bulk purchase for hundreds of pounds).

Thanks so much.

James.

Hi JimmyO.

I'm not an expert on this, but I think the only really dead smooth substrate for this type of print is aluminium.
Even then they are notoriously tricky to do. I think you can forget and card/foamcore. They are just too lumpy.

No doubt you'll get a lot more detailed advice shortly from them as know......

ok

foam board is not smooth - particularly when mounting high gloss prints

also the dry mount film wont be smooth either

to get a very smooth gloss finish use dibond and use transperancy mount film (the stuff for facemounting) it is waaaaaay smoother

Hi there
I've just found this article about static mounting your cibachrome prints. I have assisted our framer to mount down a large glossy print using the static technique. It really does work, is totally reversible. Hope this article helps.

Cheers

DiBond and aluminium are your two choices for substrate, Aluminium having the advantage that it doesn't hold a static (dust magnet) charge the way composite board does. As STCSTC said, you want the Hotpress/Dtytac facemount adhesive, and a jetmounter (or similar cold) roller mounter.

I'm not convinced that static cling is permanent.

Nooooooooooo

firstly dont use spray mount, just do a search here to find lots and lots of disasters

secondly foam core is NOT smooth enough for ciberchromes
