I have a silver ingot to frame. It's really heavy. I wondered if anyone has any clever ideas of how to attach it. It's 85mm x 35mm wide and 15mm deep. Thanks.

Front lift-off covers, used to do a lot of them especially when I traveled the antique markets, once cased the Duke of Wellington's brief case for Trust House Fortes using this technique.
Make a unit that fits to the wall on which the object reposes and a cover that rests over it a separate unit. Can be a glass fronted box, glass case set in picture frame, all manner of covers. Weight is no problem.

I'd probably just wrap it in melinex .... clear archival polyester film, either with a shaped melinex mount - i.e. the exact shape of the ingot but with 4 legs, probably 1cm wide, extending from it that pass through the mounting board, or with two straps the exact size of the ingot, one horizontal and one vertical, that are secured to a piece of mountboard cut slightly smaller than the ingot. Then that board, ingot attached, could be glued, with anything you like, to the mounting board, but it would be better to first pass a melinex strap through that small board and then pass it through the mounting board.

You could also fix only one strap to the small piece of board and pass the other through the mounting board (you couldn't do that with both straps as you'd be cutting an aperture if you did) The strap passing through the mounting board would need to be under the one fixed to the small piece behind the ingot.

Hi, thanks for both replies. I think the first option is a bit more than I need though. Interested in the second option. So where do I get the archival strips from? Had a look online. Could only find huge rolls of the stuff.

I only use the heavier weights which are only available in rolls but it's extremely versatile stuff and that's the most economical way to buy it if you use it a lot. http://www.preservationequipment.com/St ... ster-Rolls
