CCA Galleries?

Post by iamzero »

Just bought a secondary market print by Peter Blake that has been framed by CCA Galleries in a white box frame with tiny spacers. I need to open this up to reframe as to be honest its not up to my standards, any idea what I might find in there? Has anyone has any dealings with them?

Many thanks.

Thanks for the reply fella but I do intend on framing this myself of course? Already framed 3 Blakes previously that cost more than I paid off of my mortgage last year. Just curious to see if any other framers had any previous with CCA?

I've dealt with CCA but only ever bought the prints only, nothing mounted or framed. I'd guess they'd mount things as per most/all publishers - badly! If floated, double sided tape or possibly rolled up self adhesive tape. But maybe if it's something close framed with a spacer and no mount it won't be fixed with anything at all.

I've got an idea - open it up and see 8)

Thanks Robo dude,

spot on guess fella... no mount and right up to the tiny spacers. I'll open it up next week when I've decided how to reframe but the suspense is killing me in the meantime as to how they've fixed it, hopefully not at all. I'll post a picture from my iphone when I get chance.

Nah probably used carpet tape or if they had pushed the boat out it may be drymounted onto the backing board

Just out of interest, what do you think they use for spacers on this method? If I'm float mounting a piece then I use painted wooden spacers which is fine because they don't actually touch the artwork but with these spacers they rest on the artwork all the way around. So if I wanted to recreate this look to conservation standard obviously the spacers I use can't physically come into contact with the art and making up spacers from cotton rag is time consuming, any suggestions?

Purely because I frame from home and am lacking in time and space right now. I've picked up so much work lately from friends and family it's a little overwhelming. Getting stuff from friends of friends now so stacked.

Finally opened up this bad boy... Don't buy a framed print from cca is what I'd advise. Looks like ph7-70 tape, overkill isn't the word. Gonna try Zest-it to get this tape off... I'll post the results. Anyone use this product to remove adhesive before?

zest it works well on 7-70 tape pretty much the same as using water on starch glues.

Why not just run a blade down the middle of the tape and leave it on the back?
I'd be worried about tearing the artwork.

Because this is my person print and don't like the idea of the devils tape across the back of it. If it belonged to a customer I'd be tempted to do as you've suggested though.

What damage do you think the ph7-70 will do to the print in the future?
