Have a look here

I think it is free but you have to pay for the photography.

How much does it cost?

Thanks for the comments.

It's part of google street view, they have reps coming round flogging the service, mine cost £130, it depends on how big your shop is. I didn't want to spend too much, so didn't do the workshop (2000sq ft), plus the workshop can be a little untidy and is probably only of interest to other framers

The fee is a one off, and lasts as long as google supposedly. But if you want it refreshed you phone the photographer and pay him again.

I thought for £130 I'd do it and see what response I get if any, I think it's pretty cool, I'm going to link to it on my website and tweet about it.

Maybe its just me but i'm sure some "not so nice people" would find it quite interesting to be able to view their potential targets from the comfort of their own home even if it was just to grab the charity tin you have on the end of your bench.

Do the reps contact you, or do you contact them? or do they contact everyone eventually?

very nice and a great looking gallery, so tidy! It's also good that you can get a glimpse of your workshop through the open doorway so it is obvious you do the framing on site :D

Yes you certainly wouldn't be doing it if you had any paintings of value on the walls :giggle: :giggle:

A gallery near me gone done over soon after it opened with loads of publicity. All the Lowry's and a few others notable collectables got taken.

I like how the external door opens as you go near it.

The reps will no doubt be in your area soon! One just popped in, he was pushing at an open door though, as I've seen lots of these on websites in the USA and always like looking in. They are good for bars and restaurants too as you can see what sort of place they are before going.

If anyone wants the contact details of the photographer I'll post them tomorrow when I'm back at work.

I hadn't considered the security angle, I'm too trusting I suppose. The most expensive picture in the shop is £450 retail, so nothing mega. I wonder if there is a market in stolen prints?

Have a look at graysalchemy link for the details.
Looks pretty easy, you just put in your area and contact the photographer who is linked to Google.
I don't think I would worry too much about theft, anyone knows there will probably be a few pictures in the place, and you can't see prices anyway, so unless the thieves are art aficionados they are not going to know what is valuable and what isn't.
I think people are far too cynical these days. I will assume everyone has good intentions until I learn otherwise.
I think sometimes people who haven't had anything custom framed are a bit wary of the framers and the process, so anything that makes them feel more at ease is a great thing, and bound to help promote the business. I have a video on my homepage which lets people see me and see what I do, and quite a few people have said they have watched it before coming in.
