econospacers required

Post by daveym »

I have some prints I'd like to try out within a box frame but wanted to use some existing frames I have and use econospacers...because I'm a novice and new to framing my artwork I don't particuarly want to fork out on buying bulk spacers from Lions and wondered if there was an online outlet whereby I can buy smaller amounts of econospacers as testers to get an idea and to make sure I'm buying one thats the correct thickness.

Can these only be bought from lions or can I buy per a meter elsewhere?

thanks for any replies.

Econospace isn't really very econo IMHO. :P
Get some mountboard scraps, apply doublestick tape to one side, leaving the relase paper on. Flip over and slice off a thin strip. Double up if you want thicker.

I've tried using strips of mount board but find its not thick enough unless you stick around 3 layers together so the under mount has something to sit against.

5mm foam board, black or white. Or 3mm foam board with whatever colour mount board bonded to it - simples :-)

You could use balsa wood. It's the only wood considered 'archival'. Or so I'm told....

Although I don't think it's all that cheap. May be dearer than econospace. Long time since I built a model aeroplane.

I use the Paper Covered Slips from Simons for a lot of this work, 3 colours - Black , White and Ivory and in 3 different depths 12mm , 18 mm and 25 mm, they are on page 16 of this year's New Moulding Supplement.
I like them because you can join them on the underpinner, and they just slip in to the frame, great for R/M Box frames :ninja:
