T square and glass pliers

Post by muffinski »

Can anyone recommend a decent t square for using to cut glass and square up mount board looking for something at least 1000mm. One of the main picture framing company's have one for a round £60 seems steep or is that the going price for a decent one?

What should I be looking for in glass pliers is the an advantage in having a 20mm over a 15mm and what does cut running mean in relation to pliers?

What are described as "cut running pliers" really aren't necessary for 2mm glass.
What are handy are the sort that have wide, flat ends which allow you to nibble bits off when a cut has gone astray or if you just want to snap a tiny amount off. The trick is to gently grasp the glass behind the score and pull away. Don't twist or try to lever it.

£60 isn't OTT for a decent T square. :)

Hello Prospero, what do you think of these? £10 seems a good price, I would only want them to nibble the odd bits

I would have thought that ones for cut running and ones for nibbling would be different shapes.

Here are some that are 4 quids cheaper. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/347246-Econom ... 3f2db20354

The fletcher ones are plastic but they do have an attachment which has a little ridge for snapping glass, though I have never used one with 2 mm glass. I have had loads of pairs over the years and always end up losing them. At the moment I Use just normal pliers for grozing . :D

As for a t Square you want a decent one which has the a ramp at the T end so that the glass cutter can cut all the way to the end of the glass also you want one which is slightly longer than the longest length of your sheet of glass ie 4ft.

I use an L square rather than a T square......takes away the need to get one with the missing bit that allows your glass cutter to run off the end, also it's tidier as it'll sit easily on your desk...... I'll take a photo if you like :)

No worries, nothing wrong with either, just personal choice. As for pliers, I do have a set, somewhere, not seen them for years, can't honestly remember the last time i needed them, thats not to say i dont make the odd mistake, but its usually recoverable with a fine trim.......or a hammer
