L shaped, floating moulding

Post by Gillthepainter »

Good morning.
I'm looking to source a simple, cheaply as possible, L-shaped moulding for 10 x 1 meter deep rebate pictures (30mm) I'm making. Just a barewood floating frame which I paint up white. I like obeche, as it's easier for me to underpin with my basic v-nailer.

I usually use Lion L2024 https://www.lionpic.co.uk/product-searc ... _Mouldings - but it's out of stock @ £4.20 per m. They do have a white one at £5, which puts my cost up a tad more than I'd hoped.
Frinton is more expensive.

Do you know of another supplier please or another way of making a floating frame for this price range or under?

Any advice much appreciated.

Thank you, Graysalchemy.

Just having a look, but I don't think the rebate depth is quite enough at 22m.
But I'll give them a call to see if they have anything deeper.

Have just requested an arquadia catalogue and price list.
Something in the back of my mind says that arquadia only sells to framers? But I may be wrong there.

But I will be ordering a fair bit - by my standards anyway. If the lengths are 3m and under, I'll need 20 lengths.

Very useful, BaBaZa. Much appreciated.
I'll think about it, as it saves my painting the mouldings. And it's cheaper than my second choice at Lion.

Morning, Grahamdown.
Looks like their website is down at the moment, or under construction. Thank you so much for the nod.

Good prices for unfinished mouldings.
I'm beginning to think I've been paying too much for my choice of moulding.
I never realized the prices would be so different for one style.

David, I really appreciate the drawings and scales.
Those prices are indeed very good. The obeche are just what I'm looking for.
I've bought beach before, and ash. And struggle with the v-nails. I've got a frameco pushmaster which does the job, with limitations of course.

If you phone R&H they'll send you their catalogue. Here's a couple of pages to whet your appetite!

You say you need about 60 metres of mouldings.... you should contact R&H or Norfolk Mouldings or Kingswood Frames who could give you a price for custom made lengths in any wood, any profile. Forum member Timh is Kingswood Frames... you should PM him for a price? http://theframersforum.com/memberlist.p ... ile&u=3995

Brilliant, David.
Marvellous advice. And you're right about whetting the appetite. I find myself looking at frames as much as pictures at galleries and museums.

I could look at mouldings all day.

Edited to add, they're sending me their catalogue via email.
