Ring Ring

Why is it every time you dial a wrong number its never engaged???????? 
Back in the day when I did a spot of travelling, I used to get back to Heathrow around 5:00am, when I would ring my wife as a wake up so that she could be in time to meet me off the first flight into Belfast.
I should have known that something was up when it took many, many rings before I got a reply. You can guess how happy the wrong number lady was to hear me and my opening innuendo-laden banter...
