Hinging methods?

Post by cebrooker »

Hello all,
My next conundrum is hinging. From all of my reading on the topic it would appear that if you can you should pretty well always use a T hinge from the top but in what circumstances should you use a different method and what materials do you recommend? It seems a bit flimsy if you are framing a picture that is say a metre high!
Thanks again for all of your help.

Proper hinging paper used with starch paste is amazingly strong. You can get various weights and if push comes to shove you can use two layers. The cardinal rule is to always have the hinging paper weaker than the paper it is hinging. In the event of a jolt, the hinges tear instead of the art.

I've just mounted a 1280x915 linocut with edge mounting strips - larger than that in fact, that's the image size.

Thanks folks. Do you have any particular products you recommend? Or more importantly, that I should avoid!
