Double skin mountboard cove box

A double skinned cove box can be surprisingly strong
Here is one we made earlier.
The basic cove shape.
(Black-core mountboard is used in this example in order to hi-light the rectangular v-grove defineing the base of the box. The shape is held in place with self adhesive tape. Gummed tape applied. PVA applied to outer shell, which is then pressed firmly on to the inner shell and allowed to dry. Ta-da! We have not yet tested the double skinned box to destruction, but this demonstrates structural properties sufficient for many framing purposes.
