Euro 9000 underpinner - hammer return spring gone.

Who supplies spares for euro underpinners? (Should have found this out when Euro Mouldings went!!!)

I know Craig Finn - my old Euro rep and now my new Nielsen rep can probably sort it out - lost his card - but his number is here somewhere amyway - source for euro wedges.

Have a manual Euro anyway for now and maybe the spring from that will fit?

Hi John,

These are the part numbers, if this helps,

BTW, wasn't there something posted about someone supplying Euro underpinner spares, after Euro folded? or am I mistaken?

I Hope you can get what you need.

you might be lucky, it looks like it might be the same spring as in charnwood/framers corner machines - might be worth giving sam a ring at framers corner. 01530 516 925
hope this is a helpful start

Hi John,

I've been looking through a mass of Euro info, I've got which goes back to somewhere around the mid 1980's. One of these bits of info shows the underpinner they made to be built into a framers bench top. In the picture I can clearly see the air piston and a pair of return springs, with one either side.

It's a bit of a long shot, but if yours are similar in size to these, then I think they look a lot like the size and type of springs which you see between the ends of the rear brake shoes inside the rear drum brakes on cars.

So, just maybe, if you take your broken spring to a local car spares shop or motor factors, someone may be able to come up with a close match, (we hope!).

I have one of the original 8000 seies manual which I have had for about 25 years. The hammer return spring broke one day and I didn't have a spare so I had a rumage round at the local garage and found a spring of the right guage which was fine once I shortened it a bit.

Well thanks for all the concern and advice folks.

I went straight into panic mode when it went, but as I said I have my manual ('butterfly')one, which served me well for 6 years, buried in the garage.

Uncovered it enough to get at the bolts holding the hammer and wedge chute housing, hoping that the spring would be the same one - rounded off two allen keys before remembering the spring can just be teased out.

Took it down the shop this morning to find it's the exact same one!

Anyway, Craig is bringing a slack handful of springs on his next visit!

Does anyone have a copy of that great part chart for the 8000 series?

Actually, thanks for that timely reminder Robo. It's time I checked on the spares situation instead of waiting till something breaks.

I had the main spring go once. Not so easy to bodge.

I do have a spare hammer if anyone is desperate. :)

I think we had the only bungee-operated morso in town for a while. When the last spring went, off i went to the nice box and found inside - two old broken springs...
the moral: dont keep your broken parts :(

Mike, who put them in the box, said "I dont like to throw things away, kev". Obviously he never thought to tell me to replace the spares he'd used.... You laugh about these things later, usually a LOT later ;)

Hi Juliet,

Unfortunately, I have to go out this evening, but I'll try to remember to scan it and post it for you. I've got an enormous archive of old catalogues, price lists, correspondance, etc. The people who I bought out kept all this sort of thing filed and were going to throw it away, but instead I got it all.

The early Euro catalogues were divided into sections for each of the suppliers and even included pictures and a short write up of each company, it's so interesting to see how things developed from one catalogue to the next.

While we have both spare charts on this thread and John (Robo) has posted the link containing contact details for the ex-Euro rep who has some spares, now might be a good time for those who have one of these underpinners to consider their future spares requirements. Eventually they will all be gone!

I don't think 'Euro' underpinners were a part of 'Euro' mouldings.

Will find out more from Craig - due here Friday or early next week.

Hi John,

You are correct! Euro mouldings sold them, but I understand they were made in France, possibly exclusively for Euro, but who knows?

It's a bit like my Euro Morso. Euro mouldings bought them from Morso, but they paid Morso to paint them blue to match the underpinners, instead of the usual Morso green.

Bloody ell - is that right? Always thought green ones were just old ones.

Will try and get Craig on here - maybe company policy won't let him though - anyone from Neilsen ever showed here before??

No, most Morso F's are green. Mine is also a Morso F, but it's blue! If yours is blue, then it came from Euro mouldings too!
