Compressor advice
Good evening all,
I am looking to take the next step with my mount cutting, so looking to purchase a refurbished Gunnar F1 Hybrid.
Now, I know next to nothing when it comes to compressors other than a little bit or research done over the net.
The spec of the CMC says I need a minimum of 6 bar, and 20 litres per min. I do not plan to be using the compressor for anything other than the CMC.
So, what compressor should I be considering? Ideally I do not want one that has to be checked/ certified on a yearly basis!? Will a higher spec compressor than that above make the CMC work any better?
Any help greatly appreciated
Dan

Re: Compressor advice
Take a look at the bambi range. I use a BB24.

Re: Compressor advice
Does the BB24 have a letter after it? I see there are a few.
Is that running a CMC as well? Does it require the yearly checks?

Re: Compressor advice
Under regulations Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (UK) a tank which has a Volume x pressure greater than 250 barL needs inspecting by a 'competent' person. So if you have a 25L tank operating at above 10 bar then you would need it inspecting, if its below then you won't. I think If I recall small bambi's are set at below 10 bar.
CMC's don't really use much air the pistons on the clamps and the cutting heads are tiny in comparison to an underpinner or a saw.

Thanks for the replies.
I see the small silent Bambi's have a 50% Duty Cycle? Eg, 10 minutes on, 10 off. Up to a max of 30 minutes on, 30 off.
Is this normal? Can you run them for longer?!

Re: Compressor advice
No they need to cool down, you burn them out if they are run continuously, having said that I doubt you would have any problem little bambis are often supplied with new CMC's. If you want something which can run continuosly then you need a Hydrovane, but if you are only running a CMC then its over kill.

Re: Compressor advice
Hello all,
Im in the process of getting a Gunnar Aiox Hybrid and need compressor for it..
Im looking at either the Bambi HT24 (Oil free) or Bambi BB24D from their silent budget range...I know NOTHING about compressors and wondered if anyone had any advice on the pros & cons of these two machines?
Many thanks
Graham

I think the oil free compressor (Bambi HT24) would be more suitable.

Re: Compressor advice
I'm taking delivery of an F1 Hybrid next week an I've gone for the HT24
Re: Compressor advice
Are the oil free silent? I would go with what ever is the quietest. I would love to have a quiet workshop again, though my compressor is the least of my noise worries.

Re: Compressor advice
just seen this post , I would have not bothered with the HT24 ..
A) its too noisy, silent my arse...
B) not enough ooomf when u need your f1 to work hard...
c) cant use anything else connected to it at same time..
I had one got rid of it for these reasons and went for a second hand hydrovane hv02
hydrovane hv02 -
a) pretty quiet
b) never an issue with required air
c) can run both cmc and underpinner at same time

Re: Compressor advice
A single phase Hydrovane is a great addition to a workshop especially if you are expecting to expand and use a cmc and pneumatic underpinner. They will run 24/7/365 without no lag time when they get hot, in fact the harder they run the better they are. The 3 phase are a lot noisier but if you have one of them then you are likely to have a noisy 3 phase saw and dust extractor.
