Right - have at last managed to cut my coin mount, only taken 6 hours!

Last night (without realising that I had one of the 42 holes with the wrong diameter so the coin fell out - time to adjourn for a beer at that point!) I tried bonding the top bevel mount to the straight cut undermount with double side tape running down every row to hold it nice and tight but it is a nightmare to get everything lined up perfectly and on some of the holes the top mount ended up almost flush on one edge of the circle with the undermount.

Just wondered if it is better to use PVA glue as it allows more movement once together or just more practice with double sided tape is best?

Bonding layers of mountboard together we use dots of PVA and just enough double sided to hold it in place to line up. Stick it under some weight to allow the PVA to dry and it will be good and solid.

I wouldn't be without my bottle of Last Wolf and Evacon-R in my workshop!!

As you say wet glue makes for easy alignment and won't fail (in time) like sticky tape.

Thanks for he quick replies. I only took this job on as it would help me learn more about my CMC and that it would use my fallouts. I have now used these up and would prefer not to waste the good stuff so best to asked and be confident I was heading in the right direct!

Copydex is great but because of the ammonia in it not very conservation friendly so when I do conservation work I use Evacon-R. Copydex is far better though in terms of grab and drying times.

For a complex platform mount like this where you want the bond to be right to the edge (but not over) why not use dry mount tissue (archival if required)? When you cut the platform bit of the mount on your CMC, put some drymount tissue between the mountboard and your slip sheet - then both will be cut at once. You should find that the drymount tissue clings to the platform mount so if you are careful it will stay in position while you put the mount on top and then put in your hotpress to bond (assuming you have one!) Saves messing about with glue!

This isn't a platform mount, it's a sink mount.

Which ever it is it's finished Don't think I will rush to do another one!

Customers layout choice, I preferred a more ordered look, but I am glad they went with my suggestion to include the newspaper cutting, even though there was almost nothing to play with on the left hand side.

As the coins were slightly different thicknesses through wear I cut another sink mount in 1400 card to cover the actual one and then discs in 1600, and 2000 micron card to hold each coin in place depending upon the thickness. Not sure if that was the best way of doing it but it seems to hold them all in nice and tight. Putting them in one at a time helped to get them all at the same angle, in date order and alternate heads and tails (yes one of those ocd customers!).
