The Fine Art Trade Guild will be hosting a 1 Day Conservation Framing Principles Course:
When: 20th July 2016
What: It is intended to prepare candidates going forward for the Advanced examination in Conservation, however it is also useful for those studying for the GCF(APF) basic exam. This would also extend to non-Guild members interested in conservation level framing. Subjects to be covered include:
- Anoxic method of sealing the mount package and glass
- Conservation framing techniques
- Damage mechanisms; their identification and explanations
- Mountboard definitions and uses
- General conservation definitions and terminology
There will also be a hands on workshop on the hinging of artwork using Japanese papers as well as a demonstration of an anoxic method of sealing the mount package and glass. Whilst this is primarily for those interested in taking the GCF and especially the Advanced Accreditation it is open to all who have an interest in Conservation Framing.
Where: The Guild Office, 2 Wye House, 6 Enterprise Way, London SW18 1FZ

Anoxic, seriously? What gas do you use?
Re: Fine Art Trade Guild : Conservation Framing Course
The idea is to keep gasses out - as per Hugh Phibb's talk at John Jones that time - maybe the video is still out there but I remember it being not very good - quality of video that is.
Re: Fine Art Trade Guild : Conservation Framing Course
Not "gasses". the idea is to keep Oxygen out - anoxic. ("an" - from the Greek meaning "without"; "ox" - "oxygen"). In order to keep Oxygen out, you have to replace it with something else.
I'm guessing nitrogen, though an inert gas such as argon would be better.

Re: Fine Art Trade Guild : Conservation Framing Course
Well they're using the wrong word then because I'm sure what they're teaching is the same as I mentioned above, basically the glass/mount/undermount sandwich wrapped with bacofoil and stuck to the glass on the front with DS tape. (if we keep this up we'll cover the whole course here - no need to pay then - LOL)
Someone here (JFeig) does the proper gas-filled ones and a 14x11 is something daft like $1400.
(Edit - $1200 two years ago - it will not be this they are teaching http://theframersforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... 08&p=95166 )
