Hello

Post by tightmitre »

Hi Folks, just joined TFF. What a great place it seems to be. A lot of great hints and tips, most earned through blood, sweat and tears no doubt. I've been framing my own art for about 10 years and since retiring from the commercial sector, I've had the luxury of spending more time doing the things I really like. I'm gradually getting together some professional kit and organising the available workspace. Client base is building up nicely, mostly local artists and several art clubs and the word is spreading. Been using Lion and Ashworth & Thompson as the main suppliers and seem to find them very reasonable to deal with as far as delivery and price goes. Any comments about other suppliers welcome. Glass supplier the main bug bear due to the fragility of float and have to pick up supply in Glasgow. Read about Glass and Mirror but can't seem to find them on the web. Can anyone give me the link? Looking forward to joining in on the Forum.

Welcome Harry!

D&J Simons are the giant - but mixed opinions on them here - Arqadia are super-efficient, Nielsen have great quailty and of course artcare mountboard and 'restore' - reversible dry mounting foamboard.

Welcome Harry
I will second Robo's D & J Simons. They have really turned round the business and sorted themselves out after some 2-3 years in the Doldrums.

For us. Arqadia are slipping, Their customers service and quality seems to be on the slide.

A & T Excellent.

Another up and coming, although maybe you are too far North is Wessex/Frintons.

Looking forward to your inputs.

Hi Harry, and welcome to the Forum!

Well worth checking out Nielsens, especially for their Artcare range of boards (which I learned about through the forum). I've used Arqadia for over two years, and echo the comments about their efficiency. I've only once been disappointed with the quality of one of their mouldings.

It's also worth mentioning Quality Wood Mouldings. They're based in Northern Ireland, but produce some of their own moulding range. In particular, I can recommend their "vellum" range of limed mouldings. I've started to migrate to their range, as I've found that the limed mouldings from my current Irish suppliers have been steadily deteriorating quality-wise for the past 12 months or so. It's worth requesting a catalogue from them. They're also very efficient, friendly, and helpful.
