pens
Hi All, can anyone recommend good pens to use in the penholder of my Oval6. I've tried a few different brands with varying results. Been cutting some mounts for graduation photos and puttting a gold accent line round the oval but sometimes the ink just sinks into the mount board and looks dull. Went round a couple of times, no improvement. Sometimes it's blotchy. Tried ordinary pens just to check technique and they seem fine. Tried in a v-groove and an embossed line (slightly better). Would be grateful for any recommends.
Cheers and best wishes.
Harry F.
P.S. Anybody got past level 35 on Bloxorz??

Cheers Kev. Tried the Pilot pens from Lion but the "fine" one is too thick, blotches, and the extra fine one is too fine. Tried sharpening the fibre tip of the fine one with a scalpel but ended up chuckin' it in the bin. The pen that is.
Tried the Gel pens, hmm. Might get some Modge Podge and glitter. Seasonal at least. Level 33 was a 3.30am job John. Had a dream about a building site or somethin'. Just loads of bricks everywhere!!!

Bloxorz is a bit sneaky at level 33.
The tile that appears when the 'X' is pressed should not be used end-on on the exit run otherwise you will be unable to finish

Hi Harry, tightmitre wrote:Hi All, can anyone recommend good pens to use in the penholder of my Oval6.
I use the pentel pens from Lion. I don't use the extra fine, as it can blob sometimes, but the fine is OK and the tip can be trimmed to shape if required using a very sharp blade. Always shake the pens first until the little ball inside can be heard hitting the ends of the pen
The results can vary with the quality of the mountboard, so use a nice dense mountboard which is not too absorbent and lift off the pen while you allow the first application to dry and seal the surface. Then go around again and you will find it's OK.tightmitre wrote:sometimes the ink just sinks into the mount board and looks dull.
Arqadia boards are really dense and work well with these pens.

That what it recommends in the Oval 6 instruction, but mainly because if you use the embossing wheel with the rounded edge, then the pen will tightly follow the line.tightmitre wrote:Been thinking it might work better with an embossed line as this would compress the mount board and hold the ink better.
Thanks, Harry F.

Where I was trained they used the Fletcher Terry oval cutter and the procedure was to cut a V-groove, sharpen the pen to a point at a suitable angle and then run it around the V-groove several times. The result was always excellent.
To be honest, I don't often get asked for a gold line on an oval mount. I tend to do them most when I am doing ready made stuff, because I find it easier to sell mounts cut from darker colours of mount board if there is a gold line.
I've never found it a problem to do gold lines, but the Oval 6 "V-groove" attachment can be a PITA sometimes.

Thanks All.
Never usually bother with the lines either but a customer brought in the grad photos in those blue school photo type mounts. Wanted them in a different coloured mount but wanted the gold lines and the University crest cos she had paid "quite a lot" extra to have it done. Anything to keep them happy. They've turned out fine though and Mrs F wants the eldests one redone. Being a one man band and having nobody to bounce ideas off, this Forum has given me some great advice.
Thanks again. Harry F.
