I have been asked to float mount a 76 x 56 cm original art on heavy paper.

I am still unsure at what would be the most secure method pass-through or hedgehog, grateful for views and the best tape.

If the paper is really heavy I would use the hedgehog and you may want to consider a hedgehog within a hedgehog for extra security.

The so called hedgehog method is particular appropriate method for larger artworks on paper, as it solves a lot of the handling issues, especially when you need to conduct the task single handed. It is also worth pointing out that in some cases, the use of extra thick mountboard may be appropriate when the overall size, or weight of the artwork warrants greater support.

I make no distinction between items which require conservation mounting materials and these which do not require conservastion materials. Stocking separate conversation materials and non-conversation materials to me makes no sense. Likewise I like to employ best practice on every framing job. This technique I regard as an excellent method which I use across the board for most float mounting jobs, because the finished result is so consistently good while also being generally labbour efficient.

If there is anyone anyone not already using this method, I would urge them to get to grips with it as soon as they can.

I have to admit Mark, that I've read the technique instructions over and over and recommended it to others, but am about to use it for the first time next week.
Practicing a new technique feels like walking through quicksand to me, until I've nailed it. It always comes in the middle of a full workload too, when the stress is on!

Single hedgehog method for a picture of that size will be okay, just cut your mount board slightly bigger than the required finish size, so you don't have to worry about getting the picture in the finished position on the mountboard, just trim to fit later

Would anyone have the time to talk me through the hedgehog technique, in a description form? I've looked at the James Miller diagrams again, but I'm getting confused, it's the float mounting technique I need to master ASAP.
