Google Chrome has just installed itself onto my computer

I don't know why, but Google Chrome has just installed itself onto my computer. I was not given the choice of whether I wanted it, or not. Who told them that they have a right to do this?

I've done a search about this and it's a surprisingly common event apparently CC cleaner is the culprit. So I've just deleted CC cleaner.

I normally use Firefox but sometimes I find that web sites don't perform as well in Firefox as in Chrome, eg I get a blank space where there should be an image, or a Twitter feed hasn't appeared. If I temporarily switch to Chrome, I usually get the correct view.

That's lucky Mark! According to my geek friends, it is still the best functioning browser.

I use Chrome. I like its interface. :D

Yesterday though it was driving me batty. :( I had been getting the ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT message intermittently
and it got to the point where it wouldn't connect to anything. Apparently, this is a common flaw. I tried all the 'fix-it's I could
find - flushed the DNS and configured the proxy server. What ever the heck all that means. That fixed it for a while, not long.
Then I downloaded a cleaning tool which updated all the drivers and defragged the drive and a few other things. No better...

In the end I switched off the router, jiggled a few cables and switched it on again. It sulked for a few minutes with the red light on
the all of a sudden it started working. The BB is now fast as lightning. Absolutely amazing speed. Sites load in less than second, no
little rotating 'loading' icons.

So I can annoy a greater range of people at a faster rate.

Moral is: Before looking for a clever solution, check your leads. :P

I have to reboot my router a few times a week. I think a lot depends on your current line speed and how much its being used between you and the exchange ( and how many teenagers are watching youtube in the house over half term! )

I use DuckDuckGo.

It doesn't track your online activity like the other search engines do. Highly recommend it.

From memory I think the more recent versions of Ccleaner have a install option screen for Chrome with the 'Yes' box prechecked. If you skip through these screens without checking (as we all do) occasionally something like this happens. I don't think it happens with the rolling updates, just the initial installation.

One day I will be able to switch on my laptop and not have some up-date, download, patch install or configuration gluing up my computer. It's like having a bucket of sludge thrown over the whole system.
Yes, I know they can be important, but surely some-one could have worked out a cleverer way of doing this.
Even a little pop-up to say - "We are about to smother your system with a very important update. Would you like to install now or later. This will take ----minutes."

this is the way to deal with your computer if it downloads and installs something you don't want
