Moulding Storage

Good evening folks - I need to build some moulding storage rack thing wotsit, based on previous discussion it would appear that the best storage solution is vertical. Can I be awfully cheeky and ask for photos (if possible) of existing implementations so I can steal ideas for my own benefit?

I thank you once again
Steven

A lot of it depends on the space you have available.

Vertical is good as it's easier to pull lengths out and find stuff. But you need 10ft+ ceilings.

As for warping, it's my exp that if a stick wants to twist it will do - whether is horizontal or vertical.

I have most of mine on chipboard furniture panel shelves with little swivelling 'catchers' screwed to the edges.

Not being capable of uploading photo's I will attempt to explain how I store much of my moulding.

One 10ft length of 2"x12 with 12" lengths screwed from the back at regular intervals at right angles. Assembled on my work bench before securing to the walls. To retain the vertical moulding I use expanding curtain wire, hooks and eyes.

It was very quick and easy to do and works fine.

The rest of my moulding stock lives under the bed/s :D

Peter.

This was my setup in our last shop. I still have the U shaped brackets which are now lying around gathering dust.
They are free to anyone who can pick them up from the Belfast area

Very sorry, my 10ft length should read 2" x 1" and not 2" x 12

Peter.

Here’s mine.

3” x 2” screwed to the wall with holes drilled in to take 1” dowelling.

The under storage has a lip on it to try to stop the moulding walking.

Hi Folks

Thanks for all the replies, it's greatly appreciated :) Yes, I do have the height, I reckon my ceiling (well it's the roof of the building) is about 25-30ft. The warping regardless of the storage method is probably true but I find gaining access to a piece that's buried under 10 layers is rage inducing especially when I damage something in the process so hopefully the vertical option will help.

Those photos do help a lot and thanks for the offer John - I'll try and get something sorted for that :)

It's a crazy time here at the moment, I'm about 3 weeks behind with framing orders but the premises is slowly getting to a point where I can have customers again, I hope to get the shop organised this week and the workshop shortly after.

Thanks again for all the advice
Steven
