morso mitre f - fair deal?

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the Framers Forum and fairly new to making frames (frame my own artwork and photography up).

I have the opportunity to buy a 1987 Morso Mitre F - it has had light use from an artist who has used it over the years to frame up his own work.
Both sets of blades have been sharpened once or twice only ever and it comes with the original spanner.

Thet are asking £400 - would this seem like a fair deal to those in the know?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Robin

Snap it up, looks nice and clean, but I would get both sets of blades sharpened asap

Yup that's a good deal.
For the future, a left arm is useful if you don't have a work bench conveniently close and the right height.
A waste chute on the back is good, if you like to be tidy like me.
A spare handle for the foot height adjustment will make your life easier too.
There are lots of tweaks that can be made and checks to do to make sure its spot on, but the best way to find out is to cut some mitres!!
Good luck, if its as good as it looks, its a great price!

Steve & Justin, thank you for your replies and advice.
I've now gone ahead and bought the morso!
No doubt I will have many more questions down the line :)
cheers
Robin

That's what I paid for my Moro about 20 years ago. It was cheap then and with inflation I would say that it's extremely good value these days. There's not that much to go wrong on a morso that can't be easily fixed.

Looks good, go for it. I would say that's a little cheaper than some.

Looks a good machine to me at a good price. Two sets of blades are worth nearly that. :D

You have done the right thing by buying it :yes

Peter.

That machine is about the same vintage as mine. Bought new in 1984 from Ashworth&Thompson.

It looks in very clean condition, which can't be said for mine. Still does the job though......
