People don't read signs Keith.

That could be a huge neon sign and they still wouldn't take a blind bit of notice.

What's a mat? I know and you know, but J.Public generally doesn't. :|

Prospero,

Words of wisdom from someone who knows their public :giggle:
I saw it on one of the USA forums, hence the "mat" instead of "Mount"

My post was prompted by discovering there were no newspapers in the gym's coffee shop yesterday - Told us that the virus can be spread by people just touching the paper
Really? :   :wondering:

by Not your average framer
Customers assume that they can handle everything in the shop. Telling them not to does not work and can even lead to customers taking ofence. The worst one's are those with nicotine all over there fingers, who a determined to pick up and handle other customers artworks. Have you ever tried getting nicotine finger marks off from a customers artwork - It's a nightmare!

My response was prompted by thinking back to a chap I knew who had dozens of little 'Don't it it.....' signs all over
his gallery. He was a nice guy but best described as the Basil Fawlty of framing. He used to get het-up when people
didn't read them and take heed.
I have a sign on my front door telling visitors to go round the corner to my side door and ring the bell. If no answer,
look in the shed. I have to do this because I can't be 'on guard' in the front of the shop all the time and it also serves
to keep headbangers and general time-vampires away. I don't want people casually wondering in and poking about while
I aren't there. This system works well for me and most customers appreciate it.
The amount of people who stand there rattling the door handle and looking bemused is astonishing. And other people
I see later are always complaining that they came the other day but I was closed.
I live on the premises and 90% of the time I will be in. 24 hrs a day.
