Hi can anybody tell me the best place to buy sports memorabilia at trade prices to sell in our shop , shirts and photography that has been signed , thanks in advance. Nigel

Find local auction houses. Some have special sports memorabilia sales. Wessex auctions near Chippenham have them and will post items, but loads of auction houses do them. They are a general auction house who do quarterly specialist ones.

Obviously nothing is happening now, but most auctions are online so you can bid from anywhere.

We specialise in sports memorabilia framing and sales and are AFTAL approved sellers. What I would recommend is only buying items that are from trusted sources. A certificate of authenticity does not mean an item is genuine, as sadly anyone can generate their own certificate on their home computer.

I don't know how familiar you are with the industry but I would echo the advice above. I do a bit of military framing and there is a lot of fake stuff circulating and some of it has been around for some time. I've had a number of signed photos that even I know are fake, badges are harder to spot and there are so many around now as they get more collectable and prices are getting higher. Be very careful.

I agree with the above post from David and would emphasise "be very careful" as some of these fakes can only be recognised by experts

Yes. Speaking with my customer's / fan head on, I'n never buy anything signed that I hadn't personally seen signed by the person in question.

Saying that, I realise it's a significant industry, with certificates and all that. Just my distrusting nature, I guess!

I have a customer, who is treasurer of a local amateur football club and every year the have an annual dinner and dance. They always play a leading professional footballer to attend as their guest of honour and the guest footballer signs a big stack of memorabilia which is used to raise funds to help pay the football clubs bills. From time to time I get asked to cut mounts for some of this and this is how I know that this sort of things happens.

It is my supposition that lots of local football clubs probably do much the same thing and if you can make contact with the right people in local football clubs, you might be able to make some useful contacts, who can supply some suitable signed memorabilia for your requirements.
