Plaque

Does anyone have any ideas or contacts for sourcing a plaque? The frame needs to have a vintage look (ornate gold in all likelihood) and will be housing a canvas, so the plaque will go on the frame itself. Given the look that the customer is after, a shiny silver plaque from a trophy engraver won't fit the bill. Any help, greatly appreciated.

Just a thought, but some jewellers have facilities for engraving and perhaps, they might be more likely to stock the more ornate and antique looking plaquues. Being jewellers, they probably won't be cheap, but maybe worth a try.

I don't suppose you will be gilding the frame yourself and so the frame will be some sort of ready finished moulding. If that's the case, then what you could do is get a length of some very wide flat plain gilt slip moulding.
Cut out the shape of a plaque from it.
Get some Letraset (on-line, e-bay etc) and title up the wording.
Finally overspray or paint on some matt varnish. Tidy up the edges by sanding and then some simple touch-up gold.
