I've decided to become a mobile DJ,

I've around 5 years DJing experience, but have never owned all my own kit,

So, to give me something to do when i'm not framing, i've just got round to purchasing the rest of the stuff i needed (mainly a nice big PA system and some lights)

i love DJing, and playing with loud sound systems and lights, so i think i'll enjoy my new venture,

I'll never forget my 40th party - it was just before Wing Wah's existed, when it was still the pheonix pub, when there were two rooms there. I did the DJ'ing myself, making up a trio of cd's of tracks I wanted playing, and took my own stereo stack & speakers. I turned it up to level 3 on the the volume....... and had complaints from the bar that the glasses were vibrating

The bloke I bought the system from had had complaints from the neighbours about plaster cracks on their side of the wall

Grahame I have just given up doing mobile disco. I sold all my stuff last night on ebay(2000w system). My spare time is dedicated to my daughter who does show jumping, also my photography and now my new venture into framing.

maplin had a nice offer on an entry level 1000w system that i couldn't really resist. £299 for speakers, stands, leads and amp. i've been getting my lighting on ebay,

but went through to one of the major entertainment industry stores near to me tonight to pick up some "extras" - a new flightcase and a CD+G player - mainly for my own use...

still looking for "light screens" - sort of an essential part of a DJ kit, hides all the wires and stuff.

got a nice bargain in the form of an 8 light Sound to light box for £40+ postage

I used to connect my laptop through my system and play all my music fro that. The disc drives became redundant.

Towards the end of dj'ing i used to use a program called Mixmeister Pro which used to blend one song into another leaving me to stand there looking completely in control but not actually doing anything

atomixMP3 is also very similar,

i still like the feel of CD players and CDs, mp3 mixing just feels a bit cheap to me, not got the same feel.

of course i spent 4 years using top of the range club equipment, where there really wasn't much to go wrong with CDs,

You're quite right the cd is better than the MP3. The only advantage with the MP3 is that you dont have to carry loads of CD boxes around.

what do you do when you are not at work? hmmm.... about 180mph, but I have to take the mirrors off for that....

Ah, turning money into noise, eh. Its a bloke thing Honest officer the can is under 115Db

Want the red motorbike. totally bike mad until I became a car driver - then couldn't afford both - can afford both now but my family have vetoed that idea when a close friend had a bad accident that he didn't survive. Still drool when nice looking bike goes past.

My two sons are into skeleton bob sleighing - 80mph + on a tea tray - motorcycling fast no problem - going that fast with no brakes on ice - the thought terrifies me.

quick question, if you don't mind answering, what did you charge an hour? i've been charging around about £40.00 an hour in the past - but i never had all my own kit then, and was DJing one off events such as balls,
this whole "one man band" idea is a bit new to me

I used charge a nominal fee of £160 from 7 o'clock to 12 o'clock and on the rare occasion they wanted to carry on beyond 12 o'clock it would cost an extra £40 per hour.
I believe i was reasonably priced, but i did this as enjoyment and a second income.
This all included my travel and setting up/dismantling time. Oh and i nearly forgot my wifes ale money

In my son's game they call that "knobbing around" Thank goodness I have a DVD of him at a gig in Japan where he was actually playing his keyboard while the laptop was doing it's nut.

Aine (sorry bout the thing on the A - I'm on a mac and can't find something like a charmap) did you hear what John McCain (senator) said about sleeping like a baby - sleep for two hours and wake up and cry then sleep for two hours and wake up and cry and.....................

Don't have any spare time, It's all work 7 days a week. The only time off I get is spring fair.
