Being a Diabetic, an asthmatic and having a history of a heart attack, I get proirity with flu jabs and so does my wife, because when I'm ill she is my carer. In all the time I've been having these jabs I've never had flu.

I can definitely recommend the jabs - No more flu!

You were lucky.

My understanding is that in order to stockpile vaccines for flu, they have to be produced many months in advance.

The Center for Disease Control last year made an educated guess about which strains were to hit the U.S. this year. Based on that, the manufacturers geared up to cover three strains of the flu.

Apparently, the CDC guessed wrong. Only one of the strains reared its ugly head – and that was the least prevalent.

The 2008 flu vaccine was largely ineffective over here. Dozens of people have died (all with underlying respiratory problems) even though they had the shots.

Hi Pat
Oh yes.

Now on round 3 with it... About 8 weeks in total. Same as a lot of the customers.

This one just does not want to shift...

Thanks for cheering me up Merlin !!.

Current symptoms include totally blocked ears. Weird, a bit like being in a goldfish bowl - I would imagine. At least I got to see the F1 practice & race live over the weekend. Now 8 days of sleeping (!) upright on the sofa and this is driving me nuts.

Tried to finish 8 frames today but stood no chance. Finishing off an order using Minerva Gloss - something else I have a love/hate realtionship with.

Need to shif it by the weekend to get ready for the waves of tourists waiting to descend.......

One of the things I love best about no longer working in air-conditioned office environments is that, since I left them behind, I've never had to go through similar to the above since.

For all of the trials and tribulations I've had over the last couple of years, I've only had one bout of 'flu, flat on the back for a week, but well on the way to recovery after another week. I don't get colds or tummy bugs anything like as frequently either.

Be careful with those ears, Pat.

Last november i got a really bad head cold. lasted at least 2 weeks. i was totally stuffed up. then i got a really really bad earache and i felt a lot of pressure , like as if you were in a plane with the air pressure, or after swimming. i couldnt hear in left ear.

i kept trying to equalise but nth was happening. went to doc cos pain got v bad only to be told i had got a BURST EARDRUM!

Doc said too much fluid had built up in eustachian tubes and as a result it had burst the ear drum.

i couldnt hear in that ear for 1 month. it cleared up eventually.

so don't leave it too long!

Been there, done that. Many moons ago go caught out with blocked tubes in a light survey aircraft. Only went up to 5000 ft but coming back down I was in agony. Cut long story short I was sent to RGIT in Aberdeen and put into a hyperbaric chamber to simulate the same altitude. Tubes had cleared ok but there was some damage.

Managed to finish off some jobs today but have given up till monday. Actually painful to talk to people so I find a sheep instead.....one sided conversations
