An important customer has asked me to refinish a standard moulding to his requirements and this includes a tortoiseshell sight edge. It's not a difficult finish to do, but getting the gold foil off first is a bit of a worry.
If I sand paper it off of such a small sight edge lip, I feel sure that it will rub away enough wood to spoil the sight edge profile.
Any advice please?
Thanks in anticipation.

0000 steel wool
Makes me go 'OOOOOOHHH'
On a serious note - dong!
Once I needed to frame something in ref 123 456 001, which had no gold sight edge.
Out of stock at the supplier and wouldn't you know I was short of about two inches from what I had in stock - evil thoughts - just reduce the mount width by half an inch or so - they'll never know. Get thee away!
But moulding ref 123 456 000 was identical but with the gold sight edge - and I had a shedful.
Ooooh grade wool saved the day - rubbed off the gold and applied a matching stain.
