A nice example of the effect of not using the right paper for hinging.

(I didn't do it. honest. )

I took this snap with oblique lighting to exaggerate the fault but it sticks out like sore thumb in any light. Not sure what tape it is, but it's very thick and obviously not suitable for the purpose. If anyone has ever wondered why you are supposed to tear hinge paper.......



I now have the happy task of trying to remove said tape.

Probably three different things going on:

1. The paper/tape is too thick.

2. The edges are not feathered as they should be.

3. Someone applied way too much water, either in the form of water or paste, and did not control the drying process correctly.

Any one of the three can cause the problem you see here, and in combination is even worse.

Goto No.1 and stop.

The tape is unknown to me. Pressure sensitive. It looks like the type of stuff better suited to hinging mount to backing or wrapping bevels. Whats more, there appears to be two layers.

Fortunately who ever mounted it left far too wide a margin around the image so The bumps will be covered when I redo it. I might leave a sarcastic note inside the frame in case a framer of the future should ever inspect it.

I had another pre-mounted print in today. Very nice print. It appears to be nicely mounted. But it is all fixed together. Can't open the thing up to check the hinging without destroying the window mount. I may be perfectly fine....
I can tell from the outside that the backboard is std stuff though.
