Can I prepare rabbit skin glue in an electric egg poacher?

I am thinking of trying to prepare rabbit skin glue in a electric egg poacher. I am not wantig to prepare gesso, but I just want to create a thin rabbit skin glue and rottenstone wash, for my shabby and not so chic old beaten up frames, which look like they have been languishing in old old barn for last 50 to 70 years. PVA does not always look particularly old and manky.

It's the grotty, mankey and "nobody loves me" look that really sells like crazy, but making it look convincing is not always easy to do really quickly. I have a recipe which uses egg, decorator's chalking and chalky emusion paint, which cracks and goes a bit flakey when overheated with a hot air gun, or a blow lamp. Unfortunately it's a process, which really smells terrible and you can smell it half way down the street.

The simple answer is yes. Place the water/dry glue mixture that has set overnight in an empty and cleaned canned food tin so as it becomes a double boiler(bain-marie). Keep it in the boiling water until it mixes into a consistent condition.
Caution, do not let the glue boil. It will reduce the strength of the glue.

Thanks Jerome,

That's what I was hoping!

If you have a microwave handy you can also use that modern marvel. 15 seconds at a time for reheating.

I use a Wax Heater, like this, for making hide glue

That is even a better idea since it has a variable temperature knob. 40°C is more than hot enough.
