Example of painted mount decoration

Bought this piece a while ago and had an idea in mind for it. Finally decided there’s no time like the present to put thought into action!

So just thought I’d share a little hand painted mount detail we’ve done as a shop sample. The photo has been taken close enough to show the detail, the borders are even top and sides with a weighted base.

The small commemorative dish has been float mounted, with an open v groove laid over hand painted decoration to echo the irregular spaced hand painted design on the edge of the dish itself.

This will now be framed in a box frame to go on the wall in the design area as an example to show customers the kind of thing that is possible.

Jo,

That is very impressive. What paint did you use and how did you mask off the divisions between colours/white?

Hi Steve

It’s watercolour and the lines are just freehand painted onto the base mount to line up with the original. Then the top mount layer was positioned over the top, the open v groove showing the radiating lines in the gap, before the dish was fixed into position.

Hopefully this photo explains it better.
